Those who are overcoming an addiction to drugs or alcohol realize the process is one that never ends. No one merely quits and then never has to worry about the disease again. Constant challenges to persons who wishes to stay clean and sober does have to follow a number of helpful tips and steps to remain sober even when stress, anxiety, and other problems may threaten the ability to stay clean.

Avoid all the people who are enablers. There are those who can seriously put you at risk for a relapse and these people do have to be avoided. Sadly, some of those people could be those who are close friends and relatives. A real zero tolerance policy must be taken against those who are co-addictive or enablers because such persons can lead to your relapse.

Staying away from things that have the potential to make you all stressed out is advisable. Stress can create quite a number of triggers that can lead to a relapse. Stressful work and home environments can sometimes be a little tough to get away from, but there are other stressful scenarios you will have quite a bit of control over. Exercising that control is strongly advised or else staying sober can become much more difficult. 

Invest time learning about any problems in your past that may have contributed to your addictive behavior. If there are issues with anger, it is time to work hard at letting such feelings go. They are not doing anything other than undermining your ability to remain sober.

Educate yourself as much as you can about addiction and recovery. Contrary to what some might believe, this is not a boring or depressing topic. There are quite a number of interesting and innovative books, audio books, and other learning resources that can help you better understand your condition and how to stay on the right path to sobriety.

Invest time taking care of your physical health. Taking up a new form of exercise or an active hobby can only have very positive benefits. Improving your health is not only going to make the heart and the body stronger, it is going to have a strong effect on the mind. The combination of a strong mind and body can have a great effect on remaining sober.

Work with others who may be trying to succeed in their recovery. By taking steps to offer assistance to those in need, it becomes possible to reinforce your own desire to stay sober. The best way to help someone would be to volunteer services at a sober living facility or another environment where drug and alcohol counselors are supervising. Their expertise should always be deferred to.

Anyone who wishes to stay sober does have to work very hard to achieve the sought after result. No one would ever downplay the process or try to make it sound easy because it certainly is not. To improve the path to pure sobriety, it is suggested to follow a few simple steps and tips for sober living. Doing so can make the new journey to a better life a less stressful and more productive one.
